My Rosacea Journey
I had rosacea for several years before I was diagnosed with it. My husband would often comment on how red my face was. It would be really apparent when I was hot, drinking hot beverages, stressed, or indulging in a glass of wine, plus my skin had become hypersensitive. I can’t tell you how much money I wasted trying to find products that I could use on my sensitive, red skin.
My dad was diagnosed with rosacea, and I ended up getting diagnosed a year later. (Apparently, rosacea runs in families). My dermatologist prescribed me Metrogel and Azelaic acid. Oh, and the antibiotic doxycycline used to treat rosacea made me flare. Good times!
I have subtype 1 rosacea, where the skin on my face can be easily irritated. I have to be careful with what products I put on my face. Sometimes small blood vessels can be visible with subtype 1 rosacea. I haven’t noticed that with mine so much, but I have redness on my cheeks, and my nose is often red. Oh, and my cheeks sometimes will be itchy. I asked my dermatologist about the itchiness, and he said it wasn’t unusual to have it with rosacea.
The flares are the worst. It feels like my face is extremely chapped and on fire. Even my safe skincare and make-up products light me up when I’m flaring.

When I first developed rosacea, it was a nightmare trying to find a foundation that covered the redness without irritating my sensitive skin. I know how frustrating and challenging it can be to find the best foundation for rosacea.
