- Preheat oven to 425°
- Add 2 tablespoons or more of canola oil or bacon grease to the bottom cast iron skillet.
- Combine flour and shortening with a pastry blender until blended well.
- Stir in buttermilk until well combined.
- On a floured surface, pat dough out to 1½ inches thick.
- Cut biscuits with a biscuit cutter.
- Dip the top of the biscuits into oil (that's in your skillet) and place in pan.
- Bake at 425° until lightly browned, about 15-20 minutes.
