Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 3 tbsp Crisco shortening
  • cups buttermilk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 425°
  • Add 2 tablespoons or more of canola oil or bacon grease to the bottom cast iron skillet.
  • Combine flour and shortening with a pastry blender until blended well.
  • Stir in buttermilk until well combined.
  • On a floured surface, pat dough out to 1½ inches thick.
  • Cut biscuits with a biscuit cutter.
  • Dip the top of the biscuits into oil (that's in your skillet) and place in pan.
  • Bake at 425° until lightly browned, about 15-20 minutes.
